All Sport sunscreen/bug repellent Last year, I got burnt, really burnt, and not by any fire. I took a day off and decided to paddle out to the bell buoy off of Ponce Inlet for some kingfish action. 6 hours later I returned and knew I was a little red, but not that bad. Everyone mentioned it looked like I got some sun, but not until the next day would I realize how much. I hit the surf early the next day to see if anything was willing to bite. It was your average June day and it began to get warm, I stared to sweat, but wasn’t dripping, but bubbling. By nightfall I was barely able to move my arms’ as they were so sore. I had ignored the effects of sun exposure and paid dearly for it. After that day I swore I’d never go out like that again without sunscreen. Problem is, as fishermen we have an inherent problem with the lotion type sunscreens. They are oily to put on, leave a film, get on your hands and are awkward to apply once out on the water. Not exactly appropriate to someone trying to catch fish and leaving his lure with a thin film of sunscreen, and I haven’t found one that has worked as a fish attractant yet. We received a new product in the shop later in the month that got my interest, a spray on sunscreen, and not only that it repelled bugs as well! I picked up a bottle of All Sport sunscreen and decided to give it a go. First test was a long day on Mosquito Lagoon. I left the bottle in my kayak seat pouch so I wouldn’t forget it. As usual at the launch site we were getting eaten alive by the bugs so I pulled out the bottle and put on a light spray. Amazingly the bugs disappeared, so I knew this stuff did repel bugs at least. We spent 8 ours on the water that day, bright and sunny, the perfect test for this product. Came home and had my usual “coon-eyes” from sunglasses, but no burn or soreness at all. Ever since that day I’ve kept at least one bottle in my kayak pouch. All Sport comes in a small 2oz. Spray bottle making it very easy to apply, a few quick sprays on exposed skin and your done. It has a pleasant orange odor that masks most fish smells pretty well, or at least my girlfriend says I smell better as an orange than as a fish. The sunscreen aspect is an SPF-30, which is quite good for such and easy product to apply. And as mentioned before the bug repellent definitely does its job.
This is one product that I have no problem promoting as it can save someone a
lot of pain, and also lowers the chances of other health problems that are
associated with the outdoor sports. Price for a bottle usually runs about five
dollars and it goes a long way as you don’t waste any in the application
process. Be safe out there and don’t let the sun ruin your day. More information
